Anyone Ever Seen One Of These?

Sorry the pic isn't awesome, we were at a stop in Carlsbad on Friday and I grabbed hubby's phone. What the HELL kind of tree is that?

Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, but I have never in my life seen a tree that sports red, succulent flowers. In fact, in the middle of those red thick petals is what looks like a succulent pinecone with a wonky top. It's like a cactus and a tree cross-pollenated. And look at the bark, it's this unique orange/gold color.
