If you love rock and roll, read this book.
I almost titled this post, "If you love rock and roll (and I know you do), read this book." That's because pretty much everyone I know who takes me seriously (yeah, I'm thinking of you, Person Who Does Not Take Me Seriously) does love rock and roll. Those of you that don't... well, I don't take you seriously.
At any rate, what I want to share with you today is a great little book that really describes the flavor (and a raw, gritty, and sometimes bittersweet flavor it can be) of what it's like to be in a working rock band.
It's called Hitless Wonder: A Life In Minor League Rock And Roll by Joe Oestreich. For 25 years, Joe has been the bass player and co-vocalist of Watershed, the band he and his best friend founded while they were still in high school. The book takes the reader through the ups and downs, highs and lows of playing in a rock band that has a sizable following in certain parts of the country but still struggles to break into the big time.
It really is one of the best books on rock and roll that I've ever read, and believe me, I read as many as I can get my hands on. Whether you are a rock musician or just always wanted to be, you'll find this book engrossing.
Available at Amazon in paperback or Kindle format. (I'm not affiliated with the book and will not profit if you purchase it.)
