Why Trees?

I'm often asked this, so I thought I'd clue you all in.

Sometimes I think that magic and wonder live between trees - like spiderwebs or hammocks strung up with joy and inspiration. There is something in the way they silently watch us, allowing us to weave along paths in their cities. They can live for so long, reaching deep into the ground and into the sky at the same time. They remind me of life, of growth, and of duration. If you've read the book, you hopefully caught that trees show up a lot: in Anestras, in the topography of my character's journey, and usually lining paths to exciting new things. For this first in the trilogy, I wanted a title that described the beginning of something that would grow, setting the foundation for more adventures.
*Important Note: As far as the title itself goes, it is intended to be read as The Trees that They Grow, meaning the trees my characters grow. Not The Trees, They Grow. In case you were interested.
Happy reading!
