Recap: Brunch with the Author at the Bangor Library

I walked into the Bangor Library with five minutes to spare this morning, despite my plan to arrive 15 minutes early to set up.  Nevertheless, I had plenty of time to receive a warm welcome from Wanda Cole, president of the Friends of the Bangor Library and organizer of this semi-annual event.

Maria Cascario from The Press, a local weekly newspaper, introduced herself and provided me with the latest edition of her paper, featuring an article about the brunch and my latest novel, By Your Side.

A few members of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group were also in attendance including Melba Tolliver, Bart Palamaro, and Joan Zachary who snapped several great photos.

After unpacking and displaying my books on an antique card table, I filled a plate with goodies and joined what turned out to be a very responsive audience.  They seemed to enjoy listening to me babble about my writer’s journey, who and what inspired my books, and the joys of being involved in science fiction fandom.  We talked about networking, meeting other writers, and participating in supportive groups such as GLVWG.

And I told my Harlan Ellison story.

It was part discussion, part stand up comedy, and a wonderful time overall. I concluded my talk by reading the opening scene of “Root for the Undergods”, my story in ReDeus: Beyond Borders, which was well received.   Before the book signing portion of the event, I was gifted with a lovely commemorative stationary made of Pennsylvania slate.

It was truly an honor to be invited!
