Long time no post

Hey everyone, I realized it's been a month since I posted anything. Real life took over for a bit - a family member had a health issue (somewhat ironically, severe left-side head trauma, among other major problems) and we've been dealing with the aftermath. I'm still writing the third Hidden Wolves book, currently about 3/4 done. And editing my Young Adult freebie collection.

My editor also had real-life issues with a death in her family, and Life Lessons #4 got buried for a while, but is now heading for Line editing. When I get any suggestion of a release date I will be letting you know - I'm looking forward to having some general time frame, hopefully well before Gay Rom Lit in October. The cover request also is in the works, and I'm looking forward to seeing what picture of Mac the artist can come up with - the guy has a ton of pictures on the stock sites, but... let's just say he's much more of a clown than the real Mac (literary Mac?) and leave it at that.

I have a couple of questions for you:

For those who got "And to All a Good Night" from Amazon - I just got a "quality notice" from Kindle Direct that someone reported typos in the story. The example they gave me was "Oliver was a close as he had' should be "Oliver was as close as he had" (loc: 352) . I have to admit, that's not egregious enough for me to go upload a whole new edition as they suggest. So I'm wondering... I know I had no beta or editor on this story, so I'm sure there are other typos. Were they bad enough that they were irritating to you when you read it? (I did fix one name error already with a new edition, but other than that?) Is it worth the effort to take the time to proof and reload it?

The second question is about Gay Rom Lit, the M/M writer-reader retreat in October; I actually signed up to go as an author this year. I'll be on a question-and-answer panel, (oh my.) And I'll have a space at the book signing. Which means I have two things to think about ahead of time. One is about bringing books for signing. Last year, many authors brought and sold copies of their books at the signing. But judging which books and how many is mildly boggling my mind. If you go to book signings, do you look for books to buy there? If you were going to buy one of mine in paper, which one would it be? If Learning Curve - LL#4 is out in paper, I'll bring some of those, but should I bring any of the older stuff? Your input is very welcome.

And then there's swag - the little stuff you pick up at conventions and mostly toss afterward or drop into a drawer. Or eat - edible swag is good. But I'd love to know - what did you ever pick up at a convention and really like/keep/appreciate? My favorite, I think, was a stress-relief squishy-rubber Holstein cow, although I doubt that comes in the appropriate shape for M/M (or that I'd have the nerve to hand them out if it did.) An MD friend I know did get a squishy prostate at a medical convention once... Anyway - swag. Any ideas?

Thanks for sticking with me - I'll try not to go a month without saying hello next time.

Connie The way I am thinking about it is, if I haven't read something from one of the authors I want to have a book sign I´ll get that one. Or if I have a favorite book by that author and I don't have a paperback copy (I don't with most as they don't get print out here) I will buy that one. I even have a list!
You know the one I want from you, SS, but it´s not gonna be available so I´ll probably get LL if is ready because I know I will love it and it will complete the series, and/or The Rebuilding Year because I haven´t read that one yet, so I´d kill two birds with one shot... kind of :)
Ans swag... I wasn´t there last year but I got some sent to me by a friend, magnets I love and they make my fridge look hotter :)
So if you are compiling a list put my name down for those two :D

Kaje Harper Thanks - yeah, for Sole Support, Samhain just gave me a June 2014 date for the print edition, so it won't be out for GRL. Thanks for the info on the others.

Sun LOVE getting your updates!! :)

I'd love to get Full Circle, even though it's a short and probably not the best for paperback. But, dang...that book. And of course, the Tony&Mac stuff.

I love those squishy things and pens are great. :)

SO EXCITED to meet you in person at GRL!!!!!! I shall be your very own STALKER! :)

Kaje Harper LOL, looking forward to it. Full Circle isn't available in print because of the length. When I get to the sequel (which I'm dithering on because of the desire to get it right for Jamie and Toller) that will probably be a novel, and I'm debating asking the pub about including Full Circle in the print version. But I have to write the danged thing first...

If you were to buy a Tony/Mac in paper would it be book 4, or one of the others?

Honestly, I'd probably buy the entire series, one of each! ha! ...but since I usually only buy paperbacks for the author signature, I'd probably lean towards book 1. But, others might like book 4 so they can actually READ the book.

Kat I would buy all Mac and Tony books, I love these boys :)

*snickers* I just thought about M/M squishy things you could hand out at GRL *giggles* God, my mind's in the gutter today! LOL

Edible swag is always good, one doesn't have to carry it home and can always come back for more :)

BTW I didn't even notice the typos in "And to all a Good Night" when reading it on my kindle...

Kaje Harper Thanks Kat - that's all good to hear (and my mind is in that same gutter...)

Plainbrownwrapper Kaje --

It's been a long while since I read "Good Night", so I don't remember anything about the quality of proofing. But if you want me to give it a real proofing, just lemme know. I've already got it.

We should have a party, what with so many of us hanging out in this lovely gutter! ;)

Honestly, I'm reluctant, because if I start proofing it I'll start editing it, and I'm not sure I want to put in the effort there. But if other people feel like they noticed enough errors, I will happily take you up on that. Thanks!

Plainbrownwrapper Just lemme know if you do. :-)

jagr9563 Kaje,
I have your book "To All a good night", and although it's been a while since I read it, I really don't remember any typos or other errors that were bad enough to re-edit/re-upload the book. As you may or may not know, I love your writing, and you are one of the authors I have on "instant buy" when a new book of yours releases, and I also try to read the ones you so generously write and GIVE AWAY as free reads here on Good-Reads or other places.
As for GRL - For me it depends, I don't normally go to signings just to buy books. If I have a specific author I know I want to have them sign, I usually already have books from them. However, as was my experience at last years GRL, with the book giveaways, I found many knew-to-me authors that I hadn't read, and had them sign the books that I either won in giveaways, or got some other way, that I did have them sign at the signing.
I also ended up buying many books there. So many in fact that I had to buy a new piece of luggage to check on the flight home, just to get them home. :)

Not sure if I was much help with your dilemma at all, but that was my experience last year. :)

jagr9563 I should have mentioned, that as far as swag at GRL - I got a ton, loved it at the time, but once I got home, I would say that 90% of what I brought home eventually got thrown away. :( There was just so much! The things I did keep and liked the most were the ones that were useful to me - the lip balms, the zip drives, t-shirts, bracelets, and that type of stuff. However I do understand that this could become very cumbersome and also a financial burden on some authors to just "give" away stuff of that nature.
Again, probably not very helpful, but again, that was my experience. :)

Kaje Harper Thanks, that does help. For one thing, it suggests that it's worth bringing first books of series, as others have said, in the hopes of enticing new readers. And thanks for the input on the swag too. I'm at least having fun wandering around looking at things - some swag comes in minimum lots of 10,000 and can be ordered by the ton 0.0

So for now I'm speculating, and having fun with it. Eventually of course, I'll have to pick something...
