Scene summary:
Date: February; Day: Saturday; Time: 5.00am;Location: Major Woods house – bedroom & drawing room.
The Major & wife Marg, are woken very early by cascading water in bedroom; extreme cold has fractured pipes; bedroom devastated, water seeps into Drawing room below; The Major needs to get into loft but is concerned about cold. He knows layers are the answer; so puts on multiple T shirts, but cannot wear multiple trousers. His wife suggests tights. Since he cannot fit into hers he chooses in stockings instead. Marg, taking pictures for insurance purposes, snaps one of the Major in stockings for a joke.
Scene Role & Objectives:
Jeopardy – water cascading; turn tables on Major re stocking wearing & Colin Griggs. Give reason why Woods cannot live in their house until repairs done; provide reason why they would ring best friends (Steve & Julia) early in morning

From the first book in the trilogy Colin Griggs ends up wearing stockings and the whole world finds out. The Major is derisory about it. In this book, book 2 of the trilogy the joke is continued and the shoe is on the other foot. This continues the disquiet between Colin & the Major setting up further mayhem to follow...
