Bazooka GIJOE Battleground art...
Ol' Bazooka, always good for a laugh. Even in production I can't take this guy seriously. Here is another process example of art for the new GI JOE Battlegrounds game that I've been working on the last year. In this case the game production company sent me a pdf reference package for the character. i was excited to draw Bazooka again, since the last time I had drawn him he was getting killed in the IDW comic. So sad....
Anyway, sometimes in the reference package I get, they add poses they want the characters in. I saw the layout and thought it looked a bit weird, but what they say goes. So I did a prelim, it was approved and I did this final for Bazooka. I knew it looked off, but it was the pose they wanted. They came back a little while later and said " this pose looks a bit off, why dont you take another stab at it". So I did a couple more sketches for suggested poses. Mostly what looks weird in the initial finished one, is that his right arm AND right leg are both moving forward, and that's an unnatural motion. You can keep the right leg forward, but his left arm would need to be up to make it look more fluid and natural. So I did a sketch of that. I also did a quick sketch of him in a "ready" position, which I actually liked the best.
