Coming to Terms: Reconnecting by Celeste Jones

Keep Calm and Get Your Spank On! It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another excerpt from a story in Coming to Terms. This week, we're enjoying a peek at "Reconnecting" by Celeste Jones:
"Reconnecting" blurb:
When Daisy's online time begins to interfere with her relationship with her husband, Reece, he takes matters into his own hands. In addition to applying a liberal dose of discipline to her backside which has spent too much time sitting at the computer, he arranges for them to spend some time at a remote resort with no Wi-Fi. Sometimes you have to disconnect in order to reconnect.
Excerpt:
“Oh really?”  He leaned forward to peer at the computer.  “So, what had you so captivated that I could sneak all the way through the house without you noticing?”             Daisy laughed in triumph and pointed to the screen.  “I played ‘annex’ and put the X on triple letter and it was triple word.  I’m kicking Lily’s butt.”             Reece stood up and studied the scene around him.  His wife — still wearing her work clothes — her desk piled with papers, two half--consumed soda cans festered in the clutter and her attention focused on a word game.             He drew in a deep breath.  “I’m very proud of you, honey.  I’m sure your sister is reeling from the sting of your savvy word play.  However, since I’m home now, maybe it’s time you had some face time with a real person.  Namely, me.”             He clicked the mouse and closed the screen.             Daisy reacted with more alarm than she had to the possibility of an intruder in the house. She shrieked and grabbed his hand.  “What are you doing? Stop!”            She spun on Reece with a wild-eyed panic he had never seen before.  She slapped at his hand and hyperventilated.  “Stop, stop, stop.”  She grabbed the mouse away from him and opened the screen back up.  Immediately Reece could see she began to calm down.             He stood for a moment and watched his wife lose herself in cyberspace.  An intruder had entered their home, one that could be dangerous and destructive, but just not in the way he’d expected when he’d picked up the baseball bat a few minutes earlier.             He left the room and wondered how long it would be until Daisy noticed his absence.  ####             Daisy placed her hands on the keyboard and her breathing returned to normal.  Reece sure had scared her.  For a fleeting moment, his closing the computer screen had been more frightening than when she’d believed him to be a burglar, but that was just silly because of course an intruder was more frightening than someone shutting down the computer.             Her right hand caressed the mouse and she clicked around cyberspace with precision. She took another turn in the word game with her sister, ‘liked’ a few things her friends had to say, then moved to another site and pinned some recipes and decorating ideas.             A soft ‘ping’ told her she’d gotten a new message so she hurried to her email program and found a note from Reece.             Hey Hot Stuff, why don’t you leave cyberspace and come to bed for some real world fun?She giggled then replied.             You bet.  I’ll be there in just one minute.             Right before she shut down the computer she remembered, it’s Monday.  I have to see what everyone is talking about on Fika at ‘Governing Ana’.  I’ll just be a minute.  I’ll skim through the post and only read the first couple of comments and then I’ll head to bed.             Ana was the funniest blogger, and she had the most interesting discussions every Monday for a post she called Fika. She said it meant something about coffee and pastries in some country in Europe.             She promised herself she’d be quick.  She didn’t even log in so she wouldn’t be tempted to participate.       The first comment came from Minelle. How did she always manage to be the first one?  Then Ana responded, and the two of them teased back and forth.  Several others joined in and soon Daisy found herself giggling over the banter.             She had to be part of it. Reece wouldn’t find out.  She could log in and write her response.  It wouldn’t even last a minute.             While Daisy posted her comment, someone else weighed in on the discussion and mentioned a post on another blog.  Instinctively, Daisy clicked on the link.  Since she had already logged in, she left a comment there too.             Despite being a pretty bold woman, it had taken her weeks to get up the nerve to move from lurking on the numerous blogs she visited to actually creating an account and posting comments.  On Love Our Lurkers Day, she decided to dive in and leave a comment for some of her favorite bloggers to tell them how much they were appreciated.              What had started as a few shy hellos quickly blossomed into a whole circle of cyber friends who knew more about her than only the fact that she lived in a domestic discipline marriage.  In addition to commenting on blogs, she emailed nearly every day with a handful of other women in domestic discipline relationships.  There had even been a few who suggested she start her own blog.           Venturing into this new, and controversial, way of life had been so daunting to Daisy.  What would she have done without her cyber friends?  It wasn’t like she could chat with the women at work about whether they considered wooden spoons an appropriate spanking implement for staying up too late.  Or call her sister to ask about the best way to soothe a stinging and reddened butt.             The first time she’d gotten a severe punishment spanking which she believed to be unfair, she’d spent hours emailing with some of her cyber friends and reading blog posts from other women in DD relationships to talk about her confusion over her role as a DD wife.  She trusted Reece, but what if she didn’t agree with his decision to punish her?  She poured out her anxieties to her friends and they offered support and understanding.             She did spend a great deal of time on the computer, but this community filled a need within her to connect with others in the lifestyle. If her town had a domestic discipline club,        she’d go and hang out there, but it didn’t, so she hung out at the cyberspace equivalent.           Thanks to the advice and support from her DD friends Daisy had the courage to talk to Reece about her concerns.  They’d had a long heart to heart conversation which renewed their commitment to each other and to DD.             Crap.  With all the comments and emails, forty-five minutes had passed since she’d told Reece she’d be in bed soon.              She shut down the computer and hoped she’d find her husband fast asleep.
