Well, first, I didn’t respond to her article, I responded to Kelly Sue’s post, which quoted from it, and was actually the header of the article itself.
Regardless, it’s not an uncommon sentiment. It just wasn’t how it was for me. I never saw myself as a supporting character in my daydreams. And I was curious if other women had, as well. If not, then at the very least, the header is a bit misleading.
That does absolutely nothing to deny that that may have been the intent of much genre fiction of the era, or that their was inherent sexism in same. Of course there was.
But the idea that women don’t see themselves as the heroes in these stories struck me as unlikely. Still does.
I went and read the article, it’s well worth reading. Seems like you might be misreading my comment as an attempt to invalidate the article or author. Not the case at all.
