I could not bear to watch this movie because it hit so close to home for me.  It was visceral torture and had to turn it off after about 20 min.  My then-gf said to me “But you should really watch it because it’s so much like your life," but I just couldn’t.

Matilda walked the ten blocks to the library and devoured one book after another. When she finished all the children’s books she started wondering around in search of something else. So, Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow; nurtured by all those authors who’d sent their books out into the world. Like ships onto the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message “you are not alone.”
