PET PEEVE RANT AHEAD.
So I went to a bakery here in town, a rather respectable bakery, one owned by someone who had won all kinds of bakery-awards and impressive titles that make people go “Ooo. This human knows CAKES.” So I went there and bought a cookies & cream cupcake, fully expecting cupcake glory, based on all the awards and praise I had heard. And this cookies & cream cupcake was nothing more than a vanilla cupcake with cookies & cream frosting.
THIS IS NOT A COOKIES & CREAM CUPCAKE. If in one swift flick of my knife I can transform a cupcake into a plain vanilla cupcake it was nothing more than a plain vanilla cupcake to begin with. A cookies & cream cupcake would be, at the very least, vanilla cake batter with crushed up Oreos baked in it then cookies & cream frosting on top. Even better, a dark chocolate cupcake with vanilla custard filling, then cookies & cream frosting on top. But coming from a bakery that was supposedly award-winning, and renowned for its CUPCAKES, I expected better. BETTER, I SAY.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I don’t know why. I realize it is slightly ridiculous. But I have very high cupcake expectations, and when a baker claims to be some all-powerful force in the cupcake world, then produces these plain-ol, sad little cookies & cream LIES, well, to that person I say:
