Willingly Learning
Why is it only in later life that we wish we’d had a better education, or perhaps, as in my case, that we’d appreciated the education we were offered? I was labelled as having ‘potential’ but life was much more exciting than actually pursuing it. It is only after years of unskilled jobs and a future of reined possibilities that I wonder what a better education could have done for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with where I am now. The decision to try my hand at writing is one of the best decisions I have ever made, with or without the success, but I only wish I had more knowledge to back it up. And that’s where I am now.
My bookshelves consist primarily of romance novels, be it YA or erotic, contemporary or classic, and despite this being my chosen field to write in I feel like my reading choices are limiting my writing ability. With this in mind I am currently reading a thriller, Gone Girl, and what’s more, I’m loving it. Following this I will be reading those books that I should have read at school, starting with The Catcher In The Rye.
What I’m looking for now is advice and recommendations. I want to be the best that I can be and any helpful tips on achieving that are hugely welcome, as is any books that you feel are a must-read for any perspective writer.
Thanks guys and girls!
