Some thoughts on Game of Thrones finale

A quick escape from the deadline doldrums to say Hi. I will be MIA most likely for the rest of the month; please wish me and my obstreperous Angevins lots of luck. Meanwhile, here are links to two interesting stories about Game of Thrones, one arguing that the only characters who survive are those capable of changing and one that discusses the ways in which the HBO series differs from the novels. I am not thrilled by the way they are softening Cersei on HBO from Cersei in the books, and I am beginning to suspect that they are transforming Shae’s character, too. (trying to stay vague to avoid spoilers) Lastly, they seem to be deviating enough from Master Martin’s gospel that even we book readers may find ourselves surprised in the coming season, so far, far away. http://www.today.com/entertainment/th...

Steve Hope a gorgeous June doesn't distract you too much. I've never found this season conducive to anything "productive." :-)

Rebecca I agree about Cersei throughout the book including her own POV she is simply vile with no redeeming features. Some people say 'well she loves her kids'..Not really. You don't raise your children with the idea that they can get away with anything(including murder)because of their name.

The difference here in contrast is Queen Elizabeth II who instils in her family the idea of duty and service to the people. In Game of Thrones(both books & TV)Cersei teaches her kids only self service with no moral compass.

I wont say too much, but the Red Wedding truly upset me-I had such a bad night after watching it...Especially how it began is not in the books! And as for Theon, I can't watch it..I find the scenes too disturbing & close my eyes until their scenes are over.

I'm glad the finale ended on a note of hope. I don't think I could take much more sadness...Although I hope that Arya maintains her humanity.

I know you're busy Sharon, so I don't expect a reply. I just wanted to vent lol. I love Game of Thrones but at times it is gut wrenching.

Charlene Best of luck with those Angevins! I'm working my way through my own revisions and approaching the August 1191 massacre scene.

As for Game of Thrones - I'd mentioned in a comment way back that I haven't seen season 3 & was avoiding spoilers. Well, I was at a conference the first week of June and the hotel had HBO, which I discovered when flipping past channels. I unwittingly landed on Game of Thrones during the Red Wedding episode just as Catelyn is looking around the banquet room suspiciously and then, the doors close... you know the rest and now, so do I. Whoa.

Thanks for the pointers to the articles. Did you see the one in The Onion?
