OMG, imagine my excitement today when Patricia Green Facebooked me to say that the The Westerfield Affair, as well as her new book Correcting Kathy were featured in USA Today's Happily Ever After section! I feel like I'm finally legitimate!
You know, spanking fiction is the red-headed stepchild of erotica. Even BDSM is way cooler. I was talking to Laurie Schnebly Campbell, a romance writer who teaches online courses through Writer U. I asked her if she thought I'd be welcome at a Romance Writer's of America local meeting. She told me that ten years ago, all of erotica that was considered to be second-class, but now they are just one of the crowd. She thought in another ten years, it would be the same for spanking fiction. Then she very sweetly offered to go to a meeting with me my first time, the next time she visited my town (how sweet is that?). I still haven't gone, but I did join the national chapter. Little by little, I'm getting over my spanko shame.
So anyway, being featured on a the blog of a national newspaper feels legitimizing to me. Maybe it won't take ten years before we're walking proud amidst the other romance writers! :)
I am tremendously grateful to Beth Williamson (Emma Lang), author of Endless Heart. who selected spanking fiction for inclusion in the erotica new releases section of the column!
The Westerfield Affair is presently rocking out in the top 100 for Regency and Historical Romance on Amazon. Imagine me moon-walking around my living room right now...
