Characters -- Stranger than fiction, Continued

Some times real people can be stranger than fiction, or at least good idea starters. One real life character I was recently reading about was Richard Nixon -- an incredibly smart, hardworking man who was convinced he was the right man to be leading the country.

He had plenty of quirks, and a couple of very big flaws, including what I'd consider insecurity and strange view of ethics (to put it nicely). This lead him to do horrible things, like prolonging the Vietnam War (in order to win the election) and wiretapping all sorts of people, eventually leading to the Watergate break-in.

What I was not aware of until reading The Presidents Club: Inside the World's Most Exclusive Fraternity The Presidents Club Inside the World's Most Exclusive Fraternity by Nancy Gibbs was Nixon's audacity and his search for redemption in the years after he resigned in disgrace.

If you enjoy glimpses of famous leaders from history, I'd recommend reading The President's Club -- it is full of real characters and interesting reading while giving some perspective on the past and current leaders of the free world.
