What Do You Look For On Author Sites?

A little known fact about the hardships of writing is knowing when to put down the pen or back away from the keyboard. We’re tweakers, even if that sounds horribly wrong. We mess with stuff until it’s “perfect”. (Then, after it’s gone to print, we see stuff we wish we could fix and practically rend our clothes thinking about it, but that’s a whole other story.)

I’m also, incidentally, a coder. Which means, I’m twice as bad.

And as you can see, I’ve changed the wallpaper around here again, trying to make it easier to read. More cozy. “Perfect”.

Currently, I’m wildly happy with the results. (It’s the honeymoon period, so I imagine in another few months, I’ll mess with it again) But I am interested to know, what do you readers look for in a writer’s website? Finding more information about the author or the books? Sneak peeks? Bonus material? Buy links? What is it that you need as a reader when you come to a writer’s site?

As a coder, that’s also important to me to let other writers know, so your imput is SOOO appreciated. :) Also, feel free to tell me if I’m still missing anything. :)

Claudia If there's any "inside" info on a book--research, deleted scenes, and the like--I love learning about it. It gives me a greater depth of understanding for the plot and characters.

Dee Tenorio Thanks Claudia! So, like a song list of what the author was writing to as they write? Would that interest you to know?

Claudia Sure, if it informed your process. Sometimes the mood of a song expresses exactly the feelings an author's trying to capture and learning about how that song developed the story or characters brings insight and emotional weight--not that your books really need the help! I read Burn for Me a few years ago when I was abroad and depressed as hell, and I remember calling up my friend Kat (she who tweets you and begs for insider info) and telling her she NEEDED to try this new author I'd found. Been reading you ever since.

Dee Tenorio I know for me, music is integral to my writing and setting the mood for me to keep going or even to connect with my characters, so I might consider adding that to my bonus list. :)

Also, HUGE thanks for letting me know how you came across my books. Glad that it helped make you feel better, you really can't give an author a better compliment. *blows a kiss*

Have a great weekend!
