The Casual Vacancy by
J.K. RowlingMy rating:
3 of 5 starsPagford, an idyllic English town, with a "cobbled market square and an ancient abbey," a post card town--that is at war with itself: rich, poor, old and young, parents and children--the town is not so idyllic. The casual vacancy--the death of Barry Fairbrother, a member of the parish council--makes this ongoing war all the meaner, the messier, the uglier, the passionate.
This is not Hogwarts nor are there any Harry Potters in Pagford.
I did like Casual Vacancy--but I also found myself thinking it was too long, and it dragged on occasion.
Good, not bad--not as good as I wanted it to be.
