Support Your Sister ~ Come and Roar with Doris O’Connor & enter a contest
I Want to thank everyone for stopping by and reading the posts for Support your Sister Month! It’s been fantastic. You guys are awesome! Today I’m lucky enough to have the amazing Doris O’Connor aboard getting us ready to Roar into Tuesday surfing the Woman power wave. Because this just goes hand in hand with one of the gifts I’ve been dying to give away, one lucky commenter will win this amazing tank top.
When Shyla approached me to see whether I would be interested to participate in this month long feature on her blog, I jumped at the chance.
I am the mother of five wonderful girls, and as such it is extra important to me to celebrate all things womankind. So many pressures are put on women in this society. To conform, to be the best wife, mother, employee, to be that size zero, to have the perfect house, body, marriage, children, etc. etc.
The list is endless, really, and I am quite shocked at times how early those pressures start. My eight year old has been known to look at herself and pronounce herself fat. She is not, not at all. She is perfectly in proportion, but I guess in comparison to her sisters she might think she is. The rest of them are all super model skinny, especially my 15 year old. Ironically she has encountered problems at school because of her natural body size. She has been labeled Anorexic, an insult to those suffering from that debilitating eating disorder.
I shake my head in wonder and sometimes despair at the way society treats body image and perhaps most importantly at how we, as women, are our own worst critic.
As long as we are healthy and fit, does it really matter what we look like? As I frequently tell my girls beauty comes from the inside. True inner beauty will shine through, no matter what your body looks like, and the greatest gift you can give to yourself is to love you, no matter what shape, size, or ethnic origin you are.
So, I want to give a big thumbs up to women everywhere. Let’s celebrate our differences and stick together against those that seem to think beauty only comes in one size and shape and colour.
My girls have each other and as much as they fight like sisters do, they also build each other up. With the encouragement of the whole family they are growing up to love themselves for who they are.
And that is all any of us can do.
Some of my harshest critics have been other women. But you know what, the few true friends I do have, have been invaluable in their support and love.
In my writing too, I celebrate women. My heroines have backbone and they celebrate their unique femininity in whatever form that may take. True feminism lies in the right to choose your own destiny. That’s something my Gran always said to me.
And she was one of the wisest women I ever knew. A true trail blazer in her time, she never lost sight of what it meant to be a woman, and if I am half the woman she was, then I am very happy.
We’re women, here us roar!

A bit about me:
Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris… at least that’s what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.
There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.
She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.

And before I disappear, let me share my latest kick ass heroine. Anna is the daughter of a slayer, and she has a decision to make that will change her life forever. She’s Under Orders…
Blurb: Who ever heard of being ordered to wear vibrating panties to a business meeting? The visiting CEO may be sex-on-legs-gorgeous, but Anna knows a sexual harassment case when she sees it. No one is going to order her to entertain Jonathan Symmonds—no one but her own body it seems.
Jonathan proves a hard man to resist. When he reveals his secret identity, this daughter of a slayer ought to be running for the hills not play submissive to his dark side.
Will passion and a shared past be enough to keep them together, or is their bond doomed to end at the stake?
Be Warned: bondage, public exhibition
