Hard Work!

I have been trying to get another Fridgyth story going, as a follow up to A SWARMING OF BEES. Readers have been so kind and encouraging and made such cheering comments - they’ve asked for a sequel and I always planned to write more about the herb-wife, but I’ve found it quite hard to get started. Perhaps it was the pressure of feeling that it must be as good as A SWARMING… or hopefully better!
I have at last decided to publish another novel first - THE TRIBUTE BRIDE - not a Fridgyth story, but an Anglo-Saxon straight forward historical novel about Acha of Deira, sister to Edwin of Northumbria. Her marriage to Athelfrid of Bernicia linked the two smaller kingdoms of Bernicia and Deira and created Northumbria - but it can’t have been a joyful union, as her husband killed her father, took over his kingdom and drove her brother Edwin into exile!
Strangely enough, as soon as I made that decision, the pressure seemed to lift and I began to feel better. Today I have really enjoyed being back in Fridgyth’s world!

I'm hard at work still, hopefully doing a last edit of THE TRIBUTE BRIDE, but very much looking forward to a visit to Durham to see the Lindisfarne Gospels Exhibition and then on to Bamburgh and Lindisfarne - both part of the setting of this new novel - hoping to pick up just a few last minute images from the wonderful landscape in that part of the world!
