Fiction: – (Earth, 2354) Apophis almost pushed humanity to the same dead end as the dinosaurs eons earlier. Although our past contained much good, many felt that our history also contained a lot that was shameful, and that perhaps we deserved extinction. Our culture created wonderful art and science, but also glorified mass murderers such as Caesar and Napoleon. Instead, this asteroid unexpectedly led the way to the unification of our entire planet almost overnight! It quickly dragged our divided race into the future. A few centuries later we blossomed into a unified space faring civilization on the verge of attaining inter-stellar capability. Then came a voice from the Jupiter system, relayed by a probe deep in the sea of Europa; an ice covered moon that orbits the distant gas giant. Doctor Illana Petrovsk, young scientist and seasoned explorer, a member of Earth’s “Directorate” heard its call…and everyone quickly discovered that the unexpected wasn’t that far away after all.
