Burn Notice Sketches – Coded
If you have your very own copy of my book “The Forgotten Secret” and have been enjoying my daily sketches of “Burn Notice”, you’re in luck! If you don’t have your copy of “The Forgotten Secret”, get it here now!!
I thought it might be fun to use the “cipher decoded” in the very back of “The Forgotten Secret” to give you a tad bit more information about the sketches. I still can’t give you anything major, but maybe a character name, or something they are doing in the sketch. Could be fun, right?
ONCE YOU HAVE IT, DON’T GIVE IT AWAY! THIS IS A LITTLE THANK YOU FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE SUPPORTED ME AS AN AUTHOR
So I will use the number/letter combinations found in the “cipher decoded” at the end of the book to write you guys a coded message. All you have to do is plug in the correct letters that match the numbers I use.
One bit of difficult housekeeping first. Stick with me… this is tough, but you’ll get it. I know I will need 3 letters that aren’t included in the cipher, so you’re going to have to use chapter 1 of the book to figure out their values (or try it by guessing the 3 letters). Here’s how: in chapter 24 of the book, the kids use a method to figure out how to decode the cryptic number/letter combos in the “cipher key” and assign the correct letters to the numbers. I know it might be tough to sort through, but read chapter 24 again, starting with:
“The first block of numbers is the cipher key,” Josh repeated. “Each number will be assigned to a letter. The number 1 might equal Z, 2 could equal O, and 3 could be E. We just have to figure out which letter goes with which number.”
and then continue to:
“Oh right. The second block of letters is the hidden message. Once you figure out the key, and have letters assigned to the numbers, you replace the numbers in the hidden message with the letters from the cipher key and it reveals the hidden message—which means it isn’t really hidden anymore, but I guess you can still call it the hidden message if you want to.”
Read a little farther, and then reread again. You already know what letters 1-21 are from the “cipher decoded” section at the very end of the book (after “the end”, after “facts of the fiction” and before “acknowledgements”). Let’s figure out letters 22-24 by using the method the kids in the book used. For this, we will call chapter 1 “page 1″, and we will consider “Trip Montgomery felt uneasy as he stared into the darkness in front of him.” as the first sentence (hint, the three letters we need are in that sentence).
The letters are: 22=1o, 23=1i, 24=1e
OK, now… if your head didn’t explode… you have all the letters you will need to decode my cryptic messages. So let’s get to the fun!
Day 3: 24-1 2-3-12-18-17 17-12 4-12-11-22-14-12-11-17 3-2-5 23-18-21
Day 4: 24-1 1 15-17-14-12-11-23 9-11 15-18-14-v-6-9-10-2-11-4-6 v-2-11
IF THIS IF FUN, WE’LL KEEP GOING But my brain is all worn out now…
SAVE YOUR CIPHER KEY!!!!
