The First Step

Break Free

Break Free

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the highest vision you have for the life you’d most like to be living isn’t going to either. The first steps you take will be the most humble AND the most profound simultaneously. There is no momentum yet, no wave to catch…it comes down to sheer force of will and dogged determination. In fact you’re probably guided by habits you’ll have to unlearn before you can learn and new ones. (FYI…this is where channelling your frustration and anger can be helpful) Stop talking and start walking…and don’t worry, muttering under your breath is allowed!

To those around you nothing has changed, so don’t expect to get props or encouragement. Except everything changes when you decide to stop complaining and actually do something.

Einstein said, “If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got.” If you want an uncommon life you have to make uncommon decisions. You have to invest in what you value instead chasing the latest and greatest thingymabobby. Don’t kid yourself, it takes courage to stop complaining and blaming everyone and everything around you. There are lots of reasons you’re where you are…but no excuses if you choose to stay there.

Most people don’t get where they want to go because they’ve never actually figured out where they want to go. So they drift and coast and run around in circles chasing their tails.

Others figure out where they want to go, but fail to come up with a plan of action that breaks down what steps need to be taken and in what order to get from where they are to where they want to be.

You can start today. Break it down. Find step one and take it – everything else will follow.
