Edmund Leighterton returns from

the battle of Waterloo with his life but not his hearing.

Convinced that the future now holds nothing for him,

he cares not whose life he makes miserable.

He is rescued from this destructive path by

the lovely Miss Elena Smithson. However the arrival

of the mysterious George Long so jeopardises

her comfort that Edmund is forced

to take him on to protect her.
