I know you've probably gotten scores of fan mail already, but just wanted to say that those panels in Batgirl #19 have helped me to start to be able to come out and be myself, and I think I owe you a major debt of gratitude that I can never, ever truly rep
I have gotten a ton of mail on this, but most of it is very personal, and I am not going to post those posts without the permission of the people who sent them, so thank you very much for giving me consent by separate post to re-post this direct message.
I don’t have much to say except thank you for the kind words, and that any thanks at all should go to the wonderful trans friends and writers who are helping me present Alysia without making an ass out of myself (hopefully!).
On a much bigger note, my sincerest thanks to YOU for allowing me to print this. I know that for every reader who is facing a struggle, there are hundreds, maybe thousands, out there who are facing a similar battle. I know it has helped me many times in the past just to know that there are others out there who share my situation and are progressing on their path to happiness.
When I was a kid, I lived in the boonies on a farm, with no television, in a very redneck area. I had to find people to believe in in books and comics, and I can’t count the number of times since then that a work of fiction has been more helpful to me than anyone I knew in my actual life. I am delighted that this book held a special meaning for you.
You’re not alone. I received a lot of notes like this. Other people are going through this same process, and I know a bunch of them read this Tumblr and I’m positive they will be there to help if you need it, as they have been for so many others.
I wish you every success and all the love in the world.
