The Book Reading that almost wasn’t!

As promised I’m giving the dets! The meeting for the reading was around 6:15 pm, but because I live in Cali where traffic is crazy, and parking downtown is scarce I opted to leave at 2pm. It gave me plenty of time to grab lunch and go over the passage I planned on reading from my book, Sorrow’s Muse. My babysitter is amazing, promp with a focus on education and being really interactive. So when 2:15 rolled around I had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I texted her to find she’d been a horrific accident and was in an Halo with a broken vertebra. I felt horrible! Then I panicked. Then I calmed and said , nothing was going to get me down!

I wracked my brain. The other woman I used to babysit had training in L.A, and my husband was off doing training in the dessert. My mind calmed, clarity hit, and a fellow military wife and friend came to mind. I shot her a text, and angel that she was she invited my kids over with open arms. Relief flooded me. I dashed around like the chicken with my head cut off. My kids are 11 mths and 3years so they require a small stockade to travel with, especially since they’d be there till 9-10.

In the end I delivered them and hit the road in just enough time to stay ahead of traffic. I got a killer parking lot, found the place, and sat at the bar. The reading was at a wine bar called Wine Steal via Lady Jane’s Salon in San Diego. The décor was fabulous, and the staff was amazing. I spent the time chatting with the adorable bartender who made me laugh.

The coordinator, is amazing! We chatted when she arrived and I was instantly at ease. I’d meet her prior at a RWA meeting, and getting to know her better was a privilege.

Gathered in the back room I meet Kate Noble, Angela McCallister, and Sorcha Mowbray. The crowd was supportive and friendly. I couldn’t have asked for a better first time. I have to say it was odd to look in the crowd and see Amber Benson, Tara from Angel. She was very nice, but it added to the …. This could only happen to me moment! This has set a new fire underneath me. Maneuvering my way through this by myself and triumphing was a huge deal. You all know I battle with staying at home, being a Marine wife, and having a hands-on-writing career. That means sometimes writing comes dead last. But not this time.
