As David Klinghoffer noted earlier, a new alternative Darwinian hypothesis has surfaced to answer the argument for intelligent design from irreducible complexity. Darwinists still intensely feel the sting of Michael Behe's book Darwin's Black Box (1996), which introduced that term, even as they routinely deny it.
