You can do it. You WILL do it.Take some time for your birthday in the middle there somewhere. By the way, as productive as I know you will be, care to pass along a bit of that over my way, too? :-)
Helle - Thanks! There are some characters who are fairly well-behaved, but others stump me at every turn, so I just give them control and watch what happens. And that usually means they are staying true to themselves rather than fit into any pre-conceived plot. :) And- thanks for pre-ordering. I get a LOT higher royalties from Riptide than from Amazon. It does make a difference. :)
Foolish - I hope so. That's the point where I have to trust my beta and my editors. :)
mc - Thanks! I'm planning to take my birthday off, so I'm currently diligently writing at least a thousand words a day, so I end up not rushing myself too hard towards the end. :) And - okay, i'm beaming some of that to you. But don't get flustered if you start writing about hot dark-skinned mercenaries. :)
Deva - Thank you. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Kendras was my first black character (long story, but it was triggered by Race!Fail) and I'm pleased how he (and Adrastes) turned out. :)
Wow. *blown away* Thank you! Yeah, my approach was to re-think the black & white thing. Essentially, hat world doesn't have a colonial history - the Jaishani and the "white people" (I really need a word for them!) have been part of the same empire and slavery was never a race-related thing. Essentially, if you can't protect yourself, somebody else can claim you, and your skin colour doesn't matter. Which I'm finding really interesting. I'm hoping to explore the Jaishani side a bit more in the next book - I'm thinking they are actually technologically more advanced, but I'm pondering how that affects their "foreign policy".
So I'm twisting and screwing around with race relations and colonial history (and its absence), but I do think the Jaishani are overall way way cool. (And Widow. Widow's a favourite.)
So I'm in a weird space where Kendras's skin colour doesn't matter and it's still very much part of him, if that makes sense.
ETA: Expanded.
Glad you enjoyed it. :) The second book is shaping up much like the first in terms of mood, I think. Including some gruesome deaths, apparently. :)
Screw the birds book! I don't even know which that is, but since I don't have a dog in the race I'm all for Scorpions II. Go, Aleks!!!
Deva - Yep. Some people are really getting their arses whopped. :)Vivian - LOL. The birds book is pretty good, though. Then again, I really need to hit this deadline first.
You are so crazy busy! How do you survive? Oh... yes, Rasputin syndrome :DWomen? Women in m/m books are great if they don't interfere with bed activities :D
PS
Just for laughs on the Muse subject:
