MY REVIEW:
Labyrinth, the second book in The Faerie Guardian series by Rachel Morgan continues the story of a young fae guardian named Violet, Vi for short, and her adventures when she defies the Guild laws to help Nate, a human boy, to find out the truth about his mother.
This magical tale leads the two into unknown territory and trouble, as they follow a lead to find Nate's mother, who is not what she seems.
Rachel has continued the magic of her first book in the series with this young adult fantasy as readers follow Vi and Nate on their adventures and are teased by their growing relationship as they discover the secrets of Nate's family.

Lamia
Lamia are not the best-known of mythological monsters. The original Greek stories describe her as a beautiful queen who turned into a child-eating monster. A later poem by Keats gave her a snake's body below the waist -- rather like a naga.
Even later, lamia became part of the Dungeons & Dragons universe as a part-woman, part-lion monster -- or a naga-like half-serpent also.
But the child-eating detail has stuck to the lamia throughout her changes in appearance, and that was the basis for the lamia that appear in Disciple.
They haunt the eastern mountains of Wodenberg, singing in the night with high, feminine voices. Sometimes villagers will catch a glimpse of them: bristle-backed wolves with leathery hides and long, naked tails like rats.
The lamia drive out wolves, cougars, and bears. They don't tolerate any competition for prey in their territory. Nobody's sure if humans are considered prey or competition -- either way, children are a favorite target of theirs. No lone person has much chance of fighting off a hunting pack; they aren't afraid of fire, and they know what bows, slings and swords can do.
Perhaps the victim's bones will be found and perhaps they won't.
Baron Eismann organizes hunts when the lamia come down from the mountains to hunt villagers. Well-equipped teams of archers, woodsmen, and knights head upslope and kill as many lamia as they can before losing too many of their own. They return with stories of harrowing nights and the eerie cunning of the monsters, and they bring back the fangs of the lamia they killed to wear as badges of honor.

In Disciple, Part I, Kate is the healer trying to keep her traveling companions alive while the lamia harry them night and day. By Part II, the friendship she and the prince earned in surviving that journey is turning into a romance that could derail Kate's budding career.
