Some very difficult aspects to your family background, Mari. Often how things turn out in the twilight of life. Thank you for sharing.

So cool that you know the history of your grandfather and grandmother (großvater and großmutter is the German spelling and pronounciation of grandfather and grandmother, I think). Your grandfather sounded like he was a very good and kind person. And it soundslike you might miss him. Understanable if you do miss him. Thank you for sharing this wonderful info, hon.

There are other tales and I need to put them all in writing some place.
Cool that she was able to do these things. :) Yes, please do for later writing even more about her. :)

Hi Marie, I've just begun reading your blog and I love it! I think it's so important to put to paper what one remembers. I will be taping my own mothers recollections later this year, but I have a question on this post: Your greatgrandmother 'infected' your grandmother's child with Tb- on purpose? And, I'm assuming, this child was born out of wedlock, and your grandmother was shunned to some extent?

The 1880's was a totally different era for medicine and most people. Do the Recordings. We only have one recording of my parents and they were so flustered at being recorded that it was pretty much a wash. They couldn't do it.
