Amazon review:
5.0 out of 5 stars Sparkling Regency romance April 21, 2012 By Damaskcat Format:Hardcover

I have been a fan of Georgette Heyer's Regency romances for many years and I tend to measure any other novel set in that period against Heyer's incomparable work. Most are found wanting but I really did enjoy this Regency romance from Carola Dunn. Alison Larkin lives in the unfashionable Great Ormond Street with her three elderly aunts when the fourth aunt, a widow, returns from a lifetime in India. Aunt Zenobia Winkle has inherited a fortune and is determined to help her remaining family who are currently living hand to mouth and just managing to make ends meet.

Aunt Zenobia arranges for Alison to have a London season so that she can try and attract the attention of a Lord. Alison - who reads romantic novels - likes the idea of having a Lord in love with her. What happens when she meets Philip Trevelyan - who is most definitely not a Lord - as well as several men who are - makes for entertaining reading.

I read this book almost at a sitting and loved all the characters - even the villains. The gang of small boys is very well done as are the non-human character especially the dog, Midnight. The dialogue sparkles and the plot is interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Georgette Heyer but hasn't found any other author writing in the genre to be quite as good.
