Maintaining Your Air Conditioning Year Round
If you live in Texas then you’re well aware of how hot the summers are in the Lone Star State. Texans rely on their air conditioners to keep them cool and from going crazy from the heat! Your air conditioner unit deserves a little TLC for keeping you from melting. Here are some very easy things the average homeowner can do to maintain and clean their air conditioning in Cedar Park all year long.
Keep it Clean
The best thing you can do for your AC unit all year long is to keep it clean and clear of debris. It’s really quite simple to do and doesn’t take more than 15 or 20 minutes. The only supplies you’ll need are a screwdriver, soft broom or bench brush, and a slightly dampened rag.
Before you begin any work on your AC, make sure its power source is turned off!
Locate the main unit on the side or back of your house.
With your screwdriver, unscrew the grate that covers it and carefully life the grate off making sure not to scrape the coils with it.
Use your soft bristled bench brush or broom to gently sweep away any leaves, grass clippings, and other yard debris from the unit.
With your damp rag, gently wipe off the coils of the air conditioner. Again, do this gently! You don’t want to bend or damage any of the coils.
Using your garden hose, carefully run water over the cover of the unit you removed to clean pollen and dust off of it.
Wait a few minutes to make sure everything has dried before you put the cover back on and screw it in to place.
Keeping your AC unit clean all year will help it to run better and cool you off more efficiently.
Keep the Ducts Clean
Keeping your air ducts clean will help to ensure that your air conditioning in Cedar Park won’t have to work as hard to push the cool air through vents into your home. Keeping the ducts and vents clean also helps to reduce allergies. Before the summer heat causes you to drip with sweat, have the Freon level in your AC checked annually to make sure the air is cool when it comes through your home. Completing these maintenance steps will help make sure your air conditioner runs efficiently and in return it will cost you less money to run.
