If These Castle Walls Could Talk…

Pin ItThere are travelers who will tell you, “You’ve seen one castle, you’ve seen ‘em all,” but when I’m in the throes of constructing a novel set in Great Britain, castles  seem to me as important as “characters”  as any of the humans that populate my stories. Each of these fortresses has its own, specific story to tell: who built them and why? What were they trying to protect?  Who was born here; who died here?  And most importantly…who loved—or... Ciji Ware Hi Julie:

I wrote Chapter One this week and am wrestling with the story outline before I head for ten days of research in Scotland in June... Hope to have it out in late September or October if all goes well. Thanks for reading my blog and taking the time to comment!

Julie Summer at Cornwall was such a great read that I can't wait for the next installment of your "sequel" books, especially since it relates to "Swans".

Ciji Ware Actually, I can't wait, either! In the original Island of the Swans ms. I took the story up through Jane Maxwell, 4 th Ducess of Gordon's death, but the editor insisted I leave the story " at a point when she's achieved something of what she wanted and was at a happy point in her life. It was good advice but through picking up the tale " it's now two hundred years later" I can tell what happened after the first novel ended-- in other words " the rest of the story!" There was a hint of what happened to Thomas Fraser at the end of the 18thc part of A Cottage by the Sea. I'm hoping people in general will be as interested as you are, Julie

Julie Now I'm even more excited! When I finished Swans I definitely wanted more. And I need to reread Cottage at the Sea to find the Thomas Fraser part.
