"If I'm gonna die you'd better be right behind me or I'll haunt your kitchen cabinets till the day you die."
Today's letter was easy. Why? Because one of my favourite movies begins with D.
Dragonheart.
I saw this movie when I was younger and came close to crying over the ending. I found it earlier this year and, re-watching it, was reminded of just why I liked it so much. (One of the biggest pluses for it was the fact that Sean Connery talks the dragon.)
Before the actual story takes place, a king is killed. His son rushes to his aid and is mortally wounded. Desperate to save him, the queen takes her son to a dragon who gives the boy part of his heart. A promise is made that the prince will rule with justice and virtue. However, the prince turns out to be a selfish, cold ruler.
A knight, Bowen, believes it is the dragon's heart who has turned the prince to evil and sets out to kill every dragon he can find. Years later, Bowen has a run in with the very dragon who gave his heart to the prince. Of course, he doesn't know this - nor does he know that this is the last living dragon.
Bowen fights the dragon, but they end up in a stale mate, where if either moves they both die. They finally decide there is only one thing they can do - join forces. The dragon - whom Bowen now calls Draco - begins to "attack" villages. Bowen plays the gallant knight who rides in and "kills" the dragon and gets paid for his brave deeds.
The two believe they are set, but things change when they met a girl named Kara who wants to stop the king. And now she wants them to help her - but the only way to kill the king is to kill Draco, and that is something Bowen isn't sure he can do now that he has become such good friends with the dragon.
There is a sequel to this movie but I didn't like it as well. If I remember correctly, the second movie ruined the ending of this one, as well as some of the other plot lines. And this movie has such a brilliant plot and ending, it should have been left alone. It will definitely always be one of my favourites.
Quote is...from Psych. Surprised you, didn't I? It is a threat Shawn makes to Gus. One I will be tempted to use if I ever manage to drag a friend into that kind of adventure.
Allons-y!
