Chapter Two





The Factory





Underground time 28:45





“Hold the
electron higher! Pay attention to the laser line! You are gonna have to melt it
back and reattach the whole bar if you don’t make it perfect!” a man in uniform
shouts on his radio to an operator. This man is Nevo, Jordan Dabolmort’s
grandson. He is in a small capsule, which moves freely in the giant cavity of
the Factory. The technology that keeps it airborne is kept simple, bidirectionally
using polarised magnets in a world made of almost thirty per cent iron.   The levels and tension of polarisation are
controlled by buttons and levers that Nevo operates for vertical and horizontal
movement. It is easily assumed that diagonal movement is impossible, so
brilliantly pre-calculated scale moves of the capsule allow Nevo to inspect
every production procedure happening in the Factory. He is the Cube Chief
Constructor and he has to be very careful with the material of transparent
metal the cubes are made of. It is a mixture of diamond and iron. These two
materials are easy to find under the earth mantle. Their fusion is carried out
in the natural furnaces that the underground people have used for thousands of
years for numerous works – the Lava Rivers. 
 Right beneath them lies a level
of the Earth mantle that looks like the second level of the human skin - the
level where the small blood veins pass. Small streams of lava here are in
constant move, bearing their own steady speed and temperature, as if the planet
is a living, controlled organism. Under this layer, obviously, are the Lava
Lakes, which are not filled from higher grounds, but from the deeper veins that
start from the Earth Core and climb outwards in terms of the sphere shape of
the planet.





Around the
cube city cavity there are huge, firmly sealed chambers of magma, which endure
the pressure for millions of years, only releasing some of it at its peak
seasons, either from their volcano mouths on the surface of the earth, or with
small bursts inside the hollow level where the Cube City is built. That is why
at some points the Cubes are dirty with spots of Lava, and on the cavity
ground, where the Factory stands there are numerous  miraculously shaped hills of black, shining
lava, like giant stalagmites.





Slowly
moving among these huge creations are some super giant, white creatures. They
are the Albino Mantises of this world. The hard labour workers of the Factory.
All of them under the close surveillance of Nevo and his operators, perform all
the heavy duty tasks for the creation of the New Cubes half through the year, during
the Season of the Cold.





The seasons
of the underworld are two. The Hot Season and the Cold.
