Firstly, congratulations. Even this first draft is engaging, entertaining and thought–provoking – three cardinal virtues in good fiction. It’s also, as you know, very timely (and look at the response to MacEwan’s recent Solar.) Edited hard and condensed into a novella or short story, I think what you’ve done would be eminently publishable – with which I might well be able to help. In particular, your creation of the sicads and then your managing to convey the ‘humanising’ of a sicad is a tremendous achievement.
