It's Here, It's Live, It's...terrifying.

I'm sitting here in front of my computer and I'm afraid. My stomach feels like a butterfly circus. My heart feels like it shakes as it beats, and my neck and back are tighter than Brad Pitt's abs in "Thelma and Louise." I don't think I'll sleep tonight or tomorrow night, and if I do my sleep will be haunted by disappointed faces and bad reviews.

I've felt like this every time I've released another book. I am always terrified that I've made a huge mistake, that I will fail monumentally, and most of all, that I will disappoint someone who doesn't like the story I chose to tell. And this time, this feeling is magnified because the new book, A Different Blue, is not squeaky clean. It has bad words in it. It talks about a word that rhymes with next...without the T at the end. It is not a teeny-bopper book. Parents: Please read it first before handing it to your teens. My son Paul says the book is sufficiently clean, and I am overreacting. But I'm a dramatic woman. That's what I do.

That being said, I still hope you will read it. It's a book about redemption. It's a book about sinners and saints and love and loss and starting over. It's about real life. And unfortunately, to tell some stories, you have to be authentic...and life is not squeaky clean. So this is a warning and a plea, of sorts. If you hate the book....can you please wait a couple weeks to post a review until my absolute terror ebbs a little?

I'm kidding. Sort of.

Sincerely,
Me

Lori Clark Have you read some of the things being published today? My goodness... I'm sure you have nothing to worry about! :) I just started reading A Different Blue last night and so far, so good!

message 4: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin I read it, loved it, never wanted it to be over!

j.seth I'm so happy and I can't wait to read this book. I'm sure I'll love it. I really enjoyed Running Barefoot and I never wanted the Purgatory books to end (I even tried to read slower, and just couldn't)! :) Also, I agree with Lori; you have nothing to worry about!

Bless your heart! (Do I sound like a grandma?) I don't care if I do...bless your heart!

Thank you so much, Lori. I have been a nervous wreck over this book.

Nathalie - Blue... just one sentence from her could make me laugh out loud... cry... stop breathing... think... feel...
- Wilson... words are not enough... I guess I fell in love with opposite of an alpha male... ;)
To me this book shows what writing and reading is meant for!

Thank you, Nathalie. I can't express how humbling it is to read that kind of reader response. Wilson is something special, and I have been so excited to share him. I am half in love, and I created him! I'm not sure what that says about my sanity... :-)

Nathalie Well... I would love to have a piece of your sanity! ;)

And so was your review :-) Made me so happy. And I loved your onion-y comment you made somewhere. Such a rich image. Thank you so much!

Molly I was unexpectedly caught up in this wrenching unfolding of Blue! I loved it, and I look forward to reading more of your writing. I haven't been struck with such raw emotion in a long time.

Thank you so much, Molly, for taking a minute to tell me. It means a lot to me. I didn't know how this book would be received, and it's a relief to know so many people have enjoyed it.

Tracey A Different Blue is a stunning read! I am an avid reader, and can easily read multiple books in a day, but keep very few because I have no tolerance for drivel. A Different Blue is definitely a keeper. It touched me on so many different levels. I loved the multiple layers, the imperfections and the gritty reality of it. Well done!

Yay! Let's start the anti-drivel club. I feel the same way! I love a good romance, but it has to be based on more than just hot people having sex. I wanted to write a romantic "keeper" - so you've just made my day!

Kathy Thank you Amy for worrying a beautiful, intriguing novel. It's a keeper for me too.

Kathy, thank you. I definitely worried it into existence, that's the truth!! Thank you for telling me. It's such a different kind of book, and I am gratified by the response.

Annie I absolutely loved A Different Blue. It is a totally different book/story than Running Barefoot but it has left me dwelling on it just the same. I have the greatest urge to read it again. Thank you!!

Annie, thank you so much. So many kind words from so many people, and I am so humbled by them all!

message 22: by Janell (new)

Janell It's funny to read that you worried because it wasn't "clean" - I was thinking - wow - this is one of the VERY few clean books I've read - because they have all gone down that path. (I don't even remember reading bad language) This story didn't need it - the story stands on its own without the need of all the other....

I really cannot even tell you how much I love this story. But boy - you sure ruined my day yesterday. All day I tried to read something else and NOTHING (out of all 200 books on my Nook) could grab my attention at all. Everything came up short after Blue's story.... I don't like the paranormal books, but I'll definitely check out your other book "Running Barefoot."

Thank you for writing such an amazing book!

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy Harmon Thank you, Janell. I guess the mom and the school marm in me had me a little worried...and you're right, A Different Blue IS clean, isn't it? I can be a silly goose, but I have a segment of my readership that reads my books because they aren't 50 Shades, if you know what I mean, though we all need a little 50 Shades now and again, don't we? LOL. Thank you for the feedback!! And just so you know the Purgatory books are YA, and I guess they are paranormal because of the time travel, but they aren't paranormal the way you would think. And you would like Johnny Kinross, my 50s heartthrob. He is delicious. Very fun beach reads. Thanks for the comments and feedback!!

message 24: by Janell (new)

Janell I guess I should never say never then... because maybe I'll give them a try also.... :) Thanks for clarifying. Possibly something I could read with my 11 year old daughter this summer?
