Senator Rick Jones is ALL wrong!

So Sen. Jones of Grand Ledge proposes a $50.00 annual fee for all 40,000 sex offenders in the state of Michigan?  He says it’s because “They put themselves on the list”.  Well I have news for you Mr. Jones, some people were placed on the list because they were falsely accused of a sex offense and found themselves there through no fault of their own.  You lawmakers come up with laws that are next to stupid regarding offenders, and then have the gull to cry that you can’t keep up with the demand (cost) of supervising them.  Stop making such ridiculous rules.  People are NOT stalking out bus stops in order to line up “victims”.  Hell, most assaults are the result of a family member or close friend.  When are you Reps going to start reading and listening to the facts and not your own personal opinions of what and who this registry is all about?

Just for kicks….check this out:  http://shiitakeweekly.blogspot.com/2013/03/sen-rick-jones-tries-to-squeeze-blood.html

Michigan’s sex offenders could face annual fees

A bill to require the more than 40,000 people on Michigan’s sex offender registry to pay an annual fee is igniting a debate over who should bear the costs for operating the system that tracks offenders.

The bill recently approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee would require offenders who are not in prison to pay an annual $50 fee instead of a one-time $50 registration fee.

Republican Sen. Rick Jones of Grand ledge says sex offenders should be required to pay because “they put themselves on this registry by their actions.”

But the American Civil Liberties Union says the fee is an overly burdensome cost for offenders who already struggle to find jobs and housing.

The state says it costs about $600,000 each year to operate the sex offender database.

And there’s more…..

Governor signs Jones bill that will protect children from sexual predators

LANSING— Children across Michigan will be safer under legislation signed into law on Tuesday by Gov. Rick Snyder, said sponsor Sen. Rick Jones.

Public Act 2 of 2013  (Senate Bill 44) amends the Sex Offenders Registration Act (SORA) to require that a registered sex offender convicted of certain Tier 1 offences against minors to be listed on the public website.

“Convicted sex offenders are organized into three tiers, with Tier 3 being the most serious and Tier 1 the least serious,” said Jones, R-Grand Ledge. “Currently, Tier 1 offenders are registered in the law enforcement database but not the public database.”

Under PA 2, the following Tier 1 crimes would be listed on the public website.

• Possessing child pornography;

• Indecent exposure of oneself to a minor;

• Unlawful imprisonment of a minor; and

• Surveillance of a minor.

“Any parent or grandparent has the right to know if they are living next to someone who has a record of committing sexual crimes against minors,” Jones said. “This legislation allows parents to know if there are areas of the neighborhood they need to teach their children to avoid.”

It is estimated that this change in law will place an additional 250 people on the public registry at no cost to the state.

Two examples offered by the Michigan State police of the types of crimes against minors that will be added to the public registry are:

• An example of child pornography would be: A woman who watched her boyfriend sexually assault her 6-year old sister and photographed it.

• An example of unlawful imprisonment would be: A man who pulled an 8-year-old girl off of her bicycle, forced her into his house, and began fondling her.

####

(But the 50.00 charge to each tier one registrant will add 125,000 bucks to the state coffers.  I get his game now).

This man is NOT paying any attention to the real statistics that spell doom for his plans….that the recidivism rate among offenders is 3%, that the 40,000 offenders in the state of Michigan mean more money because of the Adam Walsh act, and that he is trying to win votes by degrading the lepers of society.  Does he know that 97% of sex offenses come from within a family or a close family friend?  Yes, he does, but he refuses to hear it.

Typical ignorant politician looking for a pat on the back by drawing blood from a turnip.

Want's to make more money for the Stae of Michigan by sucking the life out of sex offenders.

Want’s to make more money for the State of Michigan by sucking the little  life out of already struggling sex offenders.
