BOOK EXCERPT!

About the wonders of health insurance in America (I had had surgery for breast cancer):

"There have been further indignities from the wacky world of healthcare. I recently received a bill for $1,600. This was for the biopsy of my tumor directly after surgery. Per the lady at the insurance, this is why the claim was denied: I had not authorized the surgeon to submit my flesh to the lab. Now, considering that I was lying, anesthetized, on a table (like the poor old sun in “Prufrock”), would I suddenly rise like Lazarus and instruct, “Dr. Candle, you may biopsy my carcinoma!” before falling back unconscious? To such depths of idiocy has this great nation sunk. Obamacare? Bring it on!"

Beth Carpenter Been there, in a lesser degree. Don't you want to just shake some bean counter?

Libby Oh, boy. You said it.

message 4: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Nachlinger Sometimes I think insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiums only -- but NOT interested in paying claims! How frustrating that must have been for you.

message 5: by John (new)

John Though this is a great title for a book, you may find such a place better to make your exit than most hospitals. That said, you have written a razor sharp commentary on the absurd nature of health care today.

message 6: by D.R. (new)

D.R. Well written. It's amazing you can bring such tongue-in-cheek wit to what must be an impossible experience.

Amy Wolf Thanks everyone!

message 13: by Lynn (new)

Lynn This was one of the funniest paragraphs (although there were many more). Clueless, stupid insurance companies. I agree, can Obamacare be worse than this kind of stuff?

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weathersby I'm hooked. And for 99 cents, I'll read the book.
