Hello, Welcome and Hi
This being my first blog on goodreads I figured I would stay simple, try not to bore anyone that might bother reading it and share a bit of insight to those that might wonder why so many of my book reviews are high stars.
I love stories. Scratch that, I hunger for stories the same way a fat kid hungers for candy. There is a ravenous monster in my brain that insists on having at least one if not four books a week. Now depending on my mood I might feed it movies, video games or the occasional news site however in the end it demands good old fashioned book print to satiate it.
SO, that being said I read a lot and have since I was a very small boy living in rural (and I do mean RURAL) Iowa. The closest house was a 1/2 mile away and we did not have cable (this was back in the dark ages before cheap satellite TV)so I learned that books were a great way to pass the time.
My parents bought them from auctions, garage sales, second hand stores and a few even at full price. My mother introduced me to the wonders of the mysteries and nonfiction and my father to the world of science fiction and technology. They both loved fantasy books so I guess it is no surprise that my first book is a fantasy novel.
Now, back to the reason that I like so many books and give them such high ratings. The thing is, I try not to get bogged down by anything other that one question: Did I enjoy the story?
If the answer to that is yes than a quick follow question of :How much?
Thus, the secret of my many high star reviews. If I didn't enjoy a book I can still appreciate the work that went into it. That does not mean that I will give it a lot of stars. More than likely if I did not care for it I will not review it at all.
My focus on reviewing books is to talk about the ones I did like. If you choose to read a book I gave high marks to and you do not like it, than I am sorry. There is no reason that you and I should like or hate the same thing. How you feel about something will always be subjective.
In the case of a book it will depend on how the book hits you, when you read it in your life, your mood, and how good the book is.
So if what I offer helps I am glad and if it does not you have my abject apologies. For now I say Hello, Welcome and Hi to those of you that read this blog. I hope it entertained more than irritated.
