Pursuing Luck with a Vengeance

Pursuing luckI was just a kid when I discovered  the truth about being lucky. According to the Irish, all I needed to do was find a 4-leaf clover. Because I felt it was doable, I walked over to the grassy meadow across from my house and plopped down on the ground.

... and started searching and searching. Finally, after several hours I found one. I was so excited I ran home to show my mom. She taped my trophy to the refrigerator for everyone to see.

I was hooked. In my 10-year old brain, I concluded that I'd be more lucky if I had more clovers. Over the course of the summer, I spent hours in that meadow. I expanded to neighbors' yards, parks and public properties. Everywhere I went I looked for that elusive 4-leaf clover.

I found dozens and dozens. By the time I went back to school in the fall, the refrigerator was covered with them. And, I knew I was destined for a lucky life.

Looking back, I realize that it was the pursuit that mattered, not the 4-leaf clover. I got lucky because I never gave up the search.

Are you quitting too soon? Or, are you willing to pursue luck with a vengeance too?
