Interview with Roxanne Hargrove - Erotic Author

An interview with Roxanne Hargrove
Erotic author of "Happy Reunion"
(D.R.) Today I welcome Roxanne Hargrove, author of Happy Reunion, the opportunity to sit down with me and talk about himself, her short story Happy Reunion, and her works in progress.
(D.R.) Welcome, Roxanne. It is good to have you here for an interview today and to be able to give readers some insight on you as a person, not just a name on the cover of a book. Will you please tell us a little about yourself, like where you are from, and how you started your writing career?
(Roxanne) Thank you, David. I currently live in a small town in Ohio with my parents but have only lived here a year. Prior to that, I lived in Beckley, West Virginia and have lived several places prior to that.
I’ve enjoyed writing since I was in high school. I began writing poetry and silly little short stories that would make my peers and teachers laugh. I found in my adult life, I started to enjoy writing erotica. I would write steamy little short stories and share them with my friends who would declare they needed a cigarette after reading them.
I never took my writing very seriously until last year. The year before, I had encouraged my significant other to publish his written works. That got me into editing which got me acquainted with other authors.
Last year, I joined in doing some teasers with other writers of erotica and got so much positive feedback that I really started to think about writing something to publish. Also, I wanted to know if I would be able to do the whole thing by myself without having to pay someone to aid me. I did it!
(D.R.) I know Happy Reunion is an erotic short story, but can you tell me a little bit more about Happy Reunion and what readers can expect to find as they journey through the pages?
(Roxanne) Happy Reunion is about a man who left for business a year ago, leaving his wife Laura. Now that his work is done, he’s coming home and you can imagine the pent up sexual frustrations of the two.
From the moment the two get home until the end, readers can expect a complete view into the love the characters have for each other as they release their sexual tension.
I feel anyone who has been separated from their lover for any period of time will be able to relate to the story.
(D.R.) Do you write under a pen name? If so do your close friends and family know your pen name and the titles of the books you write?
(Roxanne) Yes, I do write under a pen name. I make it no secret as to what my real name is to anyone. Everyone who knows me, knows my pen name, my real name, and the title of my book.
(D.R.) I know it is a stretch, but is there a message you are trying to get out to readers as they make their way through your story?
(Roxanne) I want people to know that distance and length of time apart is nothing in the face of true love. If you’re meant to be together, there will be a happy reunion in your future. Never give up and never stray from that love.
(D.R.) For many authors, family is vital in their writing, while others separate their writing careers from their real lives. What does your family think about your books and how do they support you in your writing career.
(Roxanne) My family was so proud of me when I published my book. I did it without any help, except the encouragement from a few very special friends and the man who owns my heart.
My mother actually read my book and told me it was very well written. My father was so proud that I set my mind to write a story, find out what I needed in order to format it correctly, and publish the story. I even created my own cover. He won’t read the book.
(D.R.) Some authors describe having periods of writer’s block and some really struggle through these periods. Did you experience writer’s block while writing Happy Reunion?
(Roxanne) Not at all. Happy Reunion is based on my current situation with my lover. It’s a reflection of my hopes for our own reunion. It was easy.
(D.R.) Every author has their own technique for overcoming writer’s block. How did you manage to overcome this period when you were unable to continue with the story?
(Roxanne) I haven’t had any trouble with Happy Reunion but there is another story I’m writing for a collection that I get stumped with at times.
I almost gave up on that one before I even had once sentence written. It’s about show girl. That’s all I’m going to say. I didn’t know anything about show girls. I mean nothing and had no clue on how to set the character up. I didn’t want to do the research either. It was too much like work to me. I write for fun.
I got past it by just sitting my lazy butt down and doing the research any way. A great story is forming from just making myself write. That’s what you have to do when you you’re a writer. Just write.
(D.R.) I started writing many years ago as a hobby and eventually turned it into a little more when I published my first book. Are you writing as a hobby or are you writing full time to provide an income for you and your family?
(Roxanne) It’s definitely just a hobby at this time. Besides, I know it takes a long time to get publishers to look at your work and I don’t think I’d like to have someone on my back about putting out the next story. I like doing things in my own time.
(D.R.) Can you tell us the author or set of authors that influenced you the most for your particular genre?
(Roxanne) Hunter S. Jones. I started talking to her and had her look at some of my teasers on my blog one day. She told me I really had a talent and should pursue it. She kept on me too and I really like her work! She’s brilliant!
(D.R.) Now keep this answer as tame as you can for me. Why do you write erotic fiction instead of romance stories?
(Roxanne) Romance bores me. The passion of erotica is exciting and I have a dirty mind.
(D.R.) Have you written yourself or anyone close to you into your story?
(Roxanne) The love of my life. I just didn’t use his real name.
(D.R.) It isn’t unheard of for a short story to be the basis for a full movie production. If you were to get a movie deal for Happy Reunion, who would you cast to play the lead roles in the book?
(Roxanne) Daniel Craig and his wife, Rachel Weisz. Rachel Weisz is one of my absolute favorite actresses and she’s stunningly beautiful, and Daniel Craig is extremely sexy.
(D.R.) Are you currently working on any other short stories or a full out novel?
(Roxanne) I’m working on a short story about an abused housewife exacting revenge on her husband, which will be published under my actual initials and my last name. I am also working on a short story about a transvestite show girl for a collection I’m putting together. I have ideas for the other stories I want to add to that.
(D.R.) I know your short story is available in eBook format. Have you taken the steps to have your eBook published in paperback yet?
(Roxanne) No, I have not. The reason for that is because the story itself is only fourteen pages long if that.
(D.R.) Which major retailers are your books currently available in?
(Roxanne) Only Amazon at the moment.
(D.R.) Before we part ways, is there anything else you would like to say for your fans and readers around the world?
(Roxanne) I appreciate every single person who reads my work. Being an indie author isn’t easy and the best thing you can do is to leave reviews.
Also, never give up on anything. Life is what you make it. If you choose to look at the bad perspective of everything, you’re going to be miserable. If you choose to pull the good out of every situation, then you’re truly blessed.
(D.R.) Roxanne, I would like to thank you for sitting down with me today for this exciting and revealing interview. I wish you the best of luck in your writing career and hope readers around the world will enjoy your books for years to come.
