trees drip on themselves

private rainfalls

and the smell of bent flowers

too soaked

for the hummingbirds

and the cat comes home

with a wet face and back

the sky, smoke

the sun, unspoken

more crows

than mosquitoes

and the other birds are fine

speaking softly
