Kate, I agree with you. Most kids do not read anymore. The last time that my 18 year old brother read a book by choice was 5 years ago. The two kids I babysit (ages 12 and 9) will not read a book unless they get something out of it (usually ice cream or some other treat). One day, a couple of years ago, I asked the nine year old what he was learning in school and his reply was reading which is useless because he does not need to know how to read, cause he can get a program for the computer that will read everything to him.
