Little Theater

The inspiration for the first part of the series came from a stint I did as a stage manager in a Little Theater production of "That Championship Season". Much of what I wrote about how a play is produce for amateur theater stems from my actual experiences in that venue.
Little theater is a very social activity, but the volunteer actors and behind the scenes workers take their efforts very seriously. It's a big time commitment for working people. Usually rehearsals are five nights a week.

I didn't exaggerate the partying aspect, either. It's sort of the reward for all that free labor. You get to go to lavish parties every night after a performance.

If you haven't given your local Little Theater a chance yet, you might want to give it a whirl. You could be pleasantly surprised at how good the plays are.
