These snippets from The Imagination Thief will include 11 short films that are embedded within the E-Books of the novel. One of those films is called “PIPPA 50”, because it focuses on the internal world of the character Pippa—and we’ll get to it soon enough, at its appointed moment in the whole shebang. In a dangerously spontaneous and uniquely out-of-sequence move, however, I’m also going to post it today now, independent of the rest of this numerical sequence that’s unfolding here … for the simple reason that I’ve just received a version of this film “PIPPA 50” that’s been mixed with some seriously cool ambient music, which I think we should hear sooner rather than later: https://vimeo.com/35728209
The music is the entire track “Nixon” by Johnson Somerset and Peter Godwin, from the as-yet-unreleased album Ten Presidents by Johnson Somerset, which features an extended sample of a speech delivered by Richard Nixon. Johnson has been a long-time producer for Bryan Ferry among many others, including co-producing Ferry’s 2010 album Olympia; and his remixing work has recently included Katy Perry. The track also features guitar played by Peter Godwin, whose vocals and writing on his solo albums and in the band Metro have been followed by much further music including the co-writing of Steve Winwood’s 2008 album Nine Lives (you can check out Peter’s rich output at http://www.facebook.com/PeterGodwinFans).
The spoken part of the audio, taken from The Imagination Thief’s mini-chapter 50, is a slice of the lonely but enchanted imagination of Pippa Vail, whom I love: a sweet, depressive dreamer whose rich inner life unfolds in the context of her spending much of her external life sitting on her high-rise tower-block balcony in silence…
