Chiang Kai Shek (October 31, 1887 – April 5, 1975) was a Chinese political and military leader best known for leading the Kuomintang during the second Sino-Japanese war. An ally to Sun Yat Sen, who advocated for democracy in China, Chiang Kai Shek and his followers eventually fled to Taiwan after the takeover of Mao Zedong and the Communist party.
