One Tip To Avoid The Two Week Burnout
My journey to truly live started three years ago. Things were rough at home and they were even worse at work. Things got so bad at work that I knew I had to move on to something better but what……
I remember that year so well, I would have daily arguments with myself. One day I was convinced I was living a “good enough” life, the next day I wanted to change. This went on for months. Then came that day when I said enough was enough, I’m changing my life!
Have you ever had a moment like that? Can you relate to the emotions?
It’s almost like a high. You’re super excited, you finally feel like things are coming together. You’re on cloud nine and that’s where I was at. I went around telling anyone who would listen that I was quitting this job that I hated, that I was losing weight and that I was going to be President!
This excitement, this commitment lasted for two weeks, that little honeymoon period. After that two weeks the excitement and commitment started to fade very quickly. After those two weeks, I started making every excuse in the book to settle in life.
I don’t know what the time period has been or maybe will be for you but rest assured that there will come a point where your excitement and commitment to live out your dreams will be tested.
This is the make it or break point for most people, me included. After I started making excuses it was another whole year before I even started thinking about my dreams. I could have saved a lot of time and helped a lot more people if I would have just known this one tip that I want to share with you today.
I made a short video giving you the one tip I wish I had three years ago:
So if you watched the video you know the tip but if you really didn’t want to watch the video the one tip I wish I knew three years ago was to write down my dream but break it down into realistic goals.
How are you going to get anywhere if you don’t know where you’re going?
It seems simple enough, right? Yet this is where most people lose sight of their dreams. Writing down your dreams helps you visualize them better. It might even make you laugh.
When I had that moment, I would have written down that I wanted to be an event planner. Had I read that on paper I would have laughed and then known that maybe I should have put a lot more thought into my dream.
Have you ever written down what your dream or dreams are?
Once you write them down then it’s time to take the next step that will get you on the right path, set a few goals.
Now I’m not talking about laying out a ten point plan to live your dream life in 120 days, that will only lead to failure. I’m talking about writing out a few general goals and maybe one thing or one step that you can take care of ASAP. You heard the example I used in the video.
Once you write down a few realistic goals you will clearly see your plan to live your dreams start to come together. That’s what is going to make your dreams a reality, the planning and action, not just the emotions.
So if you have never written down your dream or goals associated with your dream, then NOW is the time. This is your year, this is your time to make your dreams a reality. I can’t tell you enough how important the plan is and this is how you start to form that plan.
What is your dream? What is one goal that you could write down associated with your dream that you could act on ASAP?
