Well, I finally got a date for Learning to Love: Evan & Daniel - it's out March 20th.
A lot has happened since book one released in November, and it's fair to say that I got a shock.
A very good friend, who is also an author, read my third book - and gave me some really good advice which also sent me spinning. As a result, books two and three got revisited and rewritten. In fact, I was still changing things when Evan & Daniel hit its final round of edits...
I think it's a far better book, but that's me. Put it this way... I read through Michael & Sean when it came out and my first thought was "Wow... I don't write like that any more!" Not so much that my writing style had changed, but my Voice had. I much preferred the second book.
But I will have to mention my editor. Another good author friend took a look at book two, and went through the first ten pages. I was amazed at how much tighter the writing ended up. And then it turned out that a friend of his is an editor with my publisher, and was given the book for a final round of edits....wow. I learnt soooooo much. I started the latest book and found myself avoiding those words which I overused - that's a good start.
So I guess I've learnt a couple things...
I have to keep learning and evolving as a writer - there is always room for improvement
I value the work of my editors so much more now - they do a fantastic job.
I got a lot of feedback from readers - not all of it good, I have to say, but some of it was extremely useful and it made me look at the story lines again - no bad thing.
So where do I go from here? Well, as I type, book three (Josh & Chris) is sat on my laptop, patiently waiting for me to continue editing it. And I await the reaction to book two....
