In future I shall have her bake a cake.

Wyn and ChristopherGrrrr. I’ve just tolerantly smiled my way through an e-mail lecture on how Wynter ‘betrayed’ Christopher by concentrating more on politics than on his feelings, and how she ‘doesn’t deserve his love’ – only to find I wasn’t, as I thought, reading the passionate ramblings of a romantic and inexperienced young girl, but the depressing witterings of a middle-aged woman with two grown daughters (who, btw, she would disown should they ever treat ‘their men’ in such a ‘coldhearted’ manner)

Yes, dear, Wynter SHOULD have ‘slapped Razi’s face’ and ‘left the camp’ instead of trying to get to the heart of things. Heaven knows, men are small and delicate flowers completely incapable of self-worth without a woman’s total attention and unrelenting physical presence. You are absolutely right, Wynter should have devoted her energies to comforting her man and kept her nose out of all that other meaningless business going on at the negotiation table. After all, there was only a kingdom hanging in the balance.

I shall try and do better. In future, when present during delicate political maneuverings my female characters will abandon all subtlety and diplomatic skill in order to throw a strop at perceived slights to their lover’s honor. They shall then dismiss themselves from the heart of political discourse in order to hold his hand – and possibly bake a cake. Men like cake, right?

I think the delicate flowers like cake, though it might depend on the flavour. :D

message 2: by Celine (new)

Celine I shall be certain to have her ask what flavor he likes :D (What she might prefer won't count, of course.)

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

:P I'm reading the Rebel Prince now, and am looking out for mentions of cake :D
What he likes is all that matters, of course :)

message 4: by Celine (new)

Celine Heee. I think the only cakes to be found in RP are those baked by the big and manly Úlfnaor :D

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

A very manly thing to do. :D I like the Merron and their sorrel-cakes.

message 6: by Celine (new)

Celine and chestnut flour scón! Nom nom nom.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

They sound delicious! When I read that bit in the begining I was wondering if there was a recipy :D

message 8: by Celine (new)

Celine Here is possibly the closest to what the Merron would have been making :)

message 9: by Celine (new)

Celine Did that link show up? I'm having terrible internet problems and can't see the page properly. Here is the link text just in case http://naturesfreefoods.blogspot.ie/2...

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Not the first time :D That's cool.

Thank you! I'll have to make them over the weekend. (with help) :P

message 11: by Celine (new)

Celine Nom! If you do get around to it send me a photo.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I will! But of the ones that are unburnt... knowing my cooking skills :D
I'll have to get the flour tomorrow, though :P

message 13: by Celine (new)

Celine Alas, I am a feeble excuse for a baker, myself. Good luck!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks!
I might also make cake while I'm at it :D

message 15: by Celine (new)

Celine :D

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't have a flower to give it to, though :D

message 17: by Celine (new)

Celine Well that's just ridiculous. Why bake at all then? I mean it's simply not worth doing anything if it doesn't somehow involve a man. Unless you're practicing for the day when you'll be honored to please comfort and support him, of course.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

:) Totally practicing :P Though I would probably train him to bake instead. Manly and baking, like Úlfnaor.

message 19: by Celine (new)

Celine Manly and baking. Phwoar, now that's a man worth polishing your sword for.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

It would take a lot of training :D Hopefully he likes to read :D

Celine :D

Are you writing any more books in the settings of the Poison Throne?

message 23: by Celine (new)

Celine I had always intended to write two more Morehawke books. One set shortly after the ending of RP where a supernatural threat rises up amoung the Merron in Marguerite Shirkin's kingdom and has to be investigated. The other is set the year Wyn was born, and tells the true story of what happened with her Dad and Jonathon, the Haun and the Bloody Machine (and also what happened with Wyn's mother, and Razi's and Albi's) I'd still very much like to write those books (and hope to do so some day) but for the moment publishers are more interested in my non-Moorehawke work :)

I'd love to get the time to finish the graphic novel I have scripted which tells more about - um, trying to avoid spoilers if you're not finished RP - about a certain necklace and the ornaments on it. It's a complicated story and I felt needed more room than Rebel Prince could afford it without getting sidetracked. It takes so long to draw graphic novels though and I simply don't have the time these days. Perhaps I'll turn it into a novella or something :)

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

That would be so cool! Hopefully one day. They both sound interesting and, I at least, would love to know the stories.

That would be cool. I'm hoping to finish RP within three days, but that sounds interesting. But those would all be awesome. :D

message 25: by Celine (new)

Celine Thanks!! I hope you enjoy RP :D

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

My pleasure :D
I am and I will!

message 27: by Estara (new)

Estara I shall be liking this post because of the conversation of you two, not because of its content.
There must be a rule that says you don't have to read EVERY fan mail, surely.

message 28: by Celine (new)

Celine Thanks, Estara. I kind of do have to read every 'fan' mail. It's just rude not to if someone has taken the time to write. In fairness it's rare when 'fan' mail turns out to be a link to a bad review or someone giving out. The ones who are giving out tend to be quite odd (such as the person many moons ago who told me that Sól and Ashkr were 'disgusting' or the woman who told me she'd be happy to read my work if only it weren't so blasphemous and could I please write a 'clean' book so she could enjoy it!) Those kind of mails usually just end up in the trash. Sometimes though, sometimes, I just have to have a wee rant :D

message 29: by Estara (last edited Feb 28, 2013 09:48AM) (new)

Estara I can kind of see that aspect, but when I consider how long I carry criticism with me, whether deserved or undeserved... I'd probably build up bitterness if I had your attitude. So Kudos to you for keeping sane! And when you get one of those e-mails stroke your Rien Portvliet book, it's big enough *extra wide grin*

message 30: by Celine (last edited Feb 28, 2013 09:53AM) (new)

Celine That sounds all kind of suggestive!!!! I'm not sure I want folks knowing I go around stroking great big Rien Portvliet books!!!!

message 31: by Estara (last edited Feb 28, 2013 01:31PM) (new)

Estara Oops, pretend I didn't say anything.

And anyway your secret is out, because you uploaded photo proof of yourself stroking a Portvliet book! Sometimes one just needs to stroke a book, Portvliet or not.

Celine :D :D :D
