The Game of Thrones

I have just finished reading The Game of Thrones - well book 1 at least. It's a really good tale with really excellent characters. Be warned, it's very long with a lot of politics/court intrigue.

It's the first time though that I've seen a TV series or film where the book is so very similar. It's almost word perfect. My preference is the TV series, which I saw first so that may have influenced my decision.

I have book 2 which I'm about 1/3rd of the way through. I think I may stick to the TV series for the rest, assuming that I can wait that long. I recommend series one if you haven't seen it already. Great series.

Romana1 I'm currently working my way through the third book. It is also not for the faint of heart. I read the first book before the tv series came about and had to wait awhile before starting the second (a *long* while). After I saw the first season of Game of Thrones I made it my goal to try to at least stay ahead of the tv series by one book. (I have until the end of March!)

Kendra I couldn't get into the tv show. I was able to do 2 episodes before writing it off, highly irritated. I may hit the Half-Price Books and get a cheap book and try the books.

David The TV show is worth trying again perhaps, Kendra? I really enjoyed it.

Book 2 is coming along, I must be half way through. Not sure what I'll think of the TV series after reading the book.

The Third book sounds good, Romana.

David Finished all of his available books. Wow, very long tales but worth reading. But where is the story taking us? Every time I get into a character something baleful happens. Is there any left? Even the minor characters are disappearing at a rate of knots.

Kendra I may try the TV show. I did find the first 4 in paperback for cheap, so I grabbed them, and will give them a try.

David Kendra, good books and I think you'll enjoy them. The TV series is great. Series 1 is almost word perfect to the book whereas series 2 starts to take some short cuts. You almost don't need to read book 1 - the TV series covers it so well.
